First Marwaris in Hyderabad roped in by Nizam

CHARMINAR: The city's first Marwari families migrated to Hyderabad at the behest of Nizam in the wake of drought-in duced agrarian crises in Rajasthan.
Known for their business acumen, members of this community were entrusted by the Nizam with managing finances of Telangana.
Families continued to migrate to the city for over a period of over 250 years, with assistance from those who had already established themselves here.Although the influx of families from Rajasthan has nearly stopped now, centuries of migration has left Hyderabad's Old City with a vibrant community of Marwaris who call the city home. They are largely spread across Begum Bazaar, Ghansi Bazaar, Kabutarkhana, Shamsherganj and Chaar Kaman. Their population is estimated eir population is estimated to be around 15,000.
“Many of us don't even remember where in Rajasthan our families hail from. This is our ho me now,“ explained So hanlal Kadel, a member of the community, highlighting their successful assimilation into the city's social fabric.
Shedding light on the local sentiment towards Marwaris, Kadel who runs an insurance brokerage firm said, “Hyderabad has been very accepting. We have always felt loved here.“ Blending into the cosmopolitan city , however, hasn't come without a price for Marwaris, who have witnessed the gradual death of their language with younger generations increasingly shifting to Hindi.
Marwaris have diversified beyond their initial role as financial advisers to establish their presence in every industry. “We are important players in most industries, be it food, jewellery , education or banking,“ said Mr Laxminiwas Sharma, former president of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI).
“We believe that it's our duty to give back to the society what we received our success from,“ said Kadel, revealing as the key to the Marwari community's success.
